General Rules
1. Have Fun
The most important rule when it comes to any role playing board is to always remember to have fun. This is a game, and so we would like you to treat it as such. Things that happen between your character and another person's character, whether good or bad, should not be taken personally. People join role playing boards to be someone other than themselves, and to have these characters go through a wide variety of different experiences in their fictional lives. Every person your character meets will be different in their own unique way, and these different people will influence the life of your character while yours does the same to theirs. The story of Sunset: Road to Anywhere goes by the community, not by the single player, and so every action you take could influence where your character, or even another person's character, goes in the complexity of the world.
2. Out of Character Posting
Like the name suggests, Out of Character posting (or OoC for short) is when you post as yourself not as your character. We do not approve of OoC posting in any In Character (or IC for short) posting areas. This means that if you are going to post purely Out of Character, you must do so in the OoC section at the bottom of the board. You may have a small bit of OoC writing in parentheses, but only to ask someone a simple question about their post or to apologize for something. Don't make extremely long OoC writings in your posts.
3. Spam
Spam is a word that basically means unnecessary and meaningless mumbo jumbo. We allow spam on this board, but only in the right areas. Do not go spamming in any of the following categories: Information Database, Important Events, The World. Those areas are for serious discussion, In Character stories, character bios and other important things. Spam can be used, at the right moment, in just about every one of the OoC areas at the bottom of the board. Art is the one exception, but even there it isn't considered too bad as long as it has to do with the subject. As long as it's in the correct area at the correct time, spamming is a fun way to bring some random fun into a thread. It's contagious as well, so look out. Double Posting is another form of spam, but this isn't as easily accepted as spam itself. Please refrain from double posting at all costs.
4. Flaming
Flaming is unnecessary cussing or badgering of another person on the board. We try to have respect for each other here on this board, but realize that not everyone will get along. Please keep unnecessary or rude comments about someone to yourself or else the staff will be forced to take disciplinary actions. There is no reason for someone to take things as far as flaming another role player, and by doing so you are showing that your maturity level. Just please keep your rude thoughts and comments to yourself so that we can all have a good time.
5. Translation
Here at Sunset: Road to Anywhere, English is considered to be the agreed upon language as it is on most other boards out there. If you decide to have your character say something in another language other than English, please write a translation in parentheses so that people know what you're saying out of character. If you use a slang of some sort that you believe other people may not understand, please explain it in your post. Also, we don't use the metric measuring system here, so if you could edit your height and weight into feet and pounds that would be appreciated.
6. Player Accounts
You may only have one playable character for your account. This means that you can create one bio, and play as only that character on that account. The number of Non-Player Characters you can have on an account isn't limited, but please don't go crazy with this. There is no limit to the amount of character accounts you can have, which means that everyone can have as many characters as they like, given you can handle them. The number of livable, playable characters you want and can handle is entirely up to you. Just as you are allowed NPC's, you are also allowed to have Playable Non-Player Characters, but unlike NPC's, the number of PNPC's allowed is determined by your character's Wisdom stat. For every 15 Wisdom your character has, you unlock one PNPC, the maximum of PNPC's allowed being five, unless the highest stat cap is raised through a quest or event. You are allowed to bring as many transfer characters as you wish, but your character must be accepted before you begin posting.
The Bio Approval Code Phrase is: "Life is what you make of it."
7. Grief Play
Grief Play is when you use your character to cause someone else's player trouble simply because you don't get along with them in real life. We understand that some characters simply don't mesh well together, but it is pretty obvious when someone is going out of their way to cause someone else to suffer. If you believe you are a victim of grief play, please feel free to talk to staff about it if you are not comfortable talking to the person you believe is causing it. We will look into it and ask the person accused why they are doing what they are in the thread or threads involved. A lot of characters are simply mean or rude by nature, and that will be taken into consideration in our judgment. Please remember that before complaining to the staff.
8. Signatures
A lot of people will end up using pictures of some sort in their signatures, but we ask that you please keep the size of your signature 500x400 or less. If it is slightly larger than that we can let it slide, but we don't want huge signatures that stretch the page because of their size. As long as it is only a little bigger than the max size given or smaller overall, we won't have any problems with your signature.
9. Disciplinary Action
If any of these rules are broken in any way, the staff will be forced to take action. Depending on the severity of what a person did, punishment can run from a simple warning all the way to the banning of a person from Sunset: Road to Anywhere. Banning is a last resort punishment, and will only be used if a person had broken a rule a number of times and doesn't seem to care that they are getting in trouble. It is never fun to ban a member, but if need be the staff will do so. All broken rules will be discussed during a staff meeting to figure out the correct form of punishment, and then will be put to a vote. Follow the rules and you will make both the staff and the community happy.
